Thank you for such a prompt reply. I'm a bit reluctant, however (as an amateur) to strip the whole door panel down then potentially have a time lag before I can reassemble it and use my vehicle again. |

Don't worry you can drive it with the panel off, we do it all the time when testing client's cars.

Is it necessary to disconnect the battery first to "protect" the door airbag ? |

only if you want to disconnect it...if not you could pull the fuse/s thats what i used to do on my e53 x5[similar systems] |
