I have been experiencing some trouble with the rear tailgate lock mechanism following my attempt to realign the rear upper tailgate.

The tailgate electric lock won’t lock - it is ‘winding’ like it does normal, then instantly unwinds and won’t lock.

There’s no fault on the diagnostic tool but the lock won’t lock the boot all the way (and it won’t let me lock the car at all).

I tried re-aligning the bottom tailgate hook the lock clocks to, with no luck, and even tried to realign the whole upper tailgate with no luck either. 

The finger pinching prevention wires running all along the tailgate/edges of the glass do work and instantly reopen the tailgate if there anything in the way of the boot.
However, when I close the tailgate with the button, it goes all the way down, tries to lock, unwinds, then just stays in place, only half lock : there is some play in the tailgate lock and you can move it half an inch up, and it won't let you simply lift the tailgate, you have to use the button or remote to open it.

Anyone else ever had this?

Did you ever resolve this? I have exactly the same right now. The car is sitting on the drive unlocked, because it says tailgate open - and behaves as you describe. (I've not realigned my tailgate though).

It took a while as even Land Rover dealers do subcontract the job to body shops!
My local LR guy sorted it by loosening then rebolting the bolts perfectly but it is a two man job.
took them a few hours to do a top job since they needed to reset the tailgate struts.
