How to change bulbs in the roof courtesy lights

Ok I'm stumped. Changing all interior bulbs to LED. But how the hell do you get to the one's in the roof courtesy light??

Tried following the user manual instructions but just feels and sounds like something is about to snap. It's like the plastic bezel is coming away but looks like a metal plate behind is staying firmly in place.

Pushed it back in for fear of damaging it, but now the centre courtesy light in the front unit doesn't work.... Mad 2004 Vogue TD6 - Remapped Smile

If you pull out one of the black louver type vents behind the switches for turning on the map light you should be able to put your finger in and push out the unit that holds the bulbs and switches.

You can't fit LED bulbs as there isn't enough room. What I did was buy some normal bulbs but ones with blue glass so they appear white when on.
If you remove the larger cover behind the light assembly (it just pops out) you can then reach in and press the 2 metal tabs in which releases the light unit.

I bought a few of this style which I used in the doors etc....

These don't fit... the hole is too small unless you maybe make the opening larger with a file...

Although thinking about it, this style might work...

But this style aren't very bright...

The roof console is held on by 3 (maybe 2) screws in the sunglass holder. Removed these and the whole unit can drop down. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Cheers guys, popped the little square panel out from behind the light unit so could get my fingers in and release the light.

Having got the front unit out, I then knew where to stick my screwdriver to release the fittings for the rear one.

Fitted the LEDs no problem. The hole for the centre bulb in each unit was a smidge smaller than the map lights but the LEDs just fitted in Thumbs Up 2004 Vogue TD6 - Remapped Smile

The owner's handbook instructions for removing the light panel is wrong. It tells to lever from the end. Don't!

Do as the workshop manual says and lever from the rear. Once you've popped it out, you'll see why. It is not designed to be removed from the side. Ditto the tailgate lights.

Nope, the hole is too small - I tried them today. I did get them to fit after modifying them but they aren't that bright. Ron B. VK2OTC
