Economic car

Without any regard for style:

What brand of car do you guys think is a really good on economy. Any garage can fix, parts not expensive, good value for money and automatic
Zippy enough, but will a 1 litre ish engine be ok?

Petrol or diesel?

Few thousand ish as a budget

Dacia looks ok but not automatic.....

Any suggestions ? Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

For me I would head towards a diesel Golf. I take it youre looking at an older car in which case the 1.9PD engine is nothing short of amazing in terms of economy and performance, I've had 2 PD engined vehicles, both did 200,000+ absolutely trouble free. BMW i3 Electric Car

England 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zambezi Silver

Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost.

Bought one a couple of years ago for my daughter. As powerful as a 1.6 non turbo petrol, 64 mpg, zero road tax and parts as cheap as chips.

Car now has been passed down to her younger sister so I gave it a full fluids service, including changinging the gearbox oil and brake fluid for under £100 using FoMoCo genuine parts and oils.
