French Controle Technique

Woo Hoo it PASSED!

Chuffed. Very Happy

At this point the main worry was whether I could actually get the car to be accepted for a test, only having the UK V5.

However we phoned the prefecture to confirm that with the EU number (K, on V5) and with relevant other details present we should have no 'admin' issue.

Phoned CT center to explain and also confirm this, and the nice chap said to bring it in and we'll work things out.

And so, having flicked the 'up/down' switch on the Zenons, I took it to the center of doom.

Spent slightly longer than usual with the manager, but we got the car recognized by the French Gov't software from info' on the UK V5.

A huge relief because a CoC from Landrover would cost around €200 (cash that I want to spend on tyres).

Onto the test, all machines hooked up in sequence.

At this point it is the 'computer that decides', ... Rolling Eyes

Anyhow, we got to the end and "PASSED"!!!!! Good for 2 years. Smile

The tester could not have been more friendly and helpful, all through the test he went out of his way to explain what was happening and why.

So next step, €500 on the old 'Carte Grise'.

Just glad that I took the plunge before Octendof.

Best Rich

I'm a bit late in replying to this post I know, but mine passed the CT as well recently. My CoC cost £100 from JLR and now my car has finally been re registered.🙂
Glad yours passed it's CT👍 Travelling around in circles again.

I've tracked one down to Castillones (47) An ex JLR mechanic who has just arrived in the area. He's probably too far south for you. Anyway I'll do the research and pm you with the details for your info. I'm also aware that he does Disco's and Defenders.
As soon as I have the info, I'll let you know. Travelling around in circles again.

Thanks J90, Castillones is doable, from Perigueux. Been up to nearby Limoges for a so called Land Rover Specialist and that was a disaster. 2 1/2 hour drive one way to find out that I needed a new compressor, while it only was a software issue. It was that moment I decided to by the GAP tool and got it done with the help of the GAP guys. The dealer here in Perigueux told me I needed to replace all four suspension sides and the compressor.... that's the negative side of France.

I had my 3.6 TDv8 serviced by this chap below. It was an oil service and fitting new drop links and control arm at the front. I was very happy with him. I was present throughout and we discussed what was being done. He isn't a RR specialist but VAG trained. He has service schedules etc on computer for most vehicles, including the RR.

His workshop is behind his house and he is fully equipped with two post lift and all the gear. His charges are more than reasonable and he provides proper invoice and company stamp in the service book.

He is about an hour away from me but I think nearer to both of you Robert and Chris. Health has stopped me doing my own servicing and I will happily use him in future.

That's even better news, because I'm planning a gearbox fluid change soon. Travelling around in circles again.
