My aged mother has a 64 plate Renault Megane which we need to sell. She is now in a care home and with my brother and sister, I have legal power of attorney. Mum is the registered keeper on the V5c, my question is, can one of us with LPA sign the form to sell the car? Its not clear on the gov.uk website, so wondered if anyone on here had been in the same position and if so, what the procedure is.

When you are selling a vehicle on behalf of the registered keeper, as attorney under POA:

"DO NOT sign in Section 8 (the registered keeper section), unless it so happens that the registered keeper is still able to sign.

When the new owner signs to be the new registered keeper, you can give him / her a photocopy of the logbook, but retain the document.

Write a covering letter explaining the circumstances that you are selling as attorney under POA. You do not need to include a copy of your POA document. Send the covering letter, and the logbook, to a special section at DVLA:
SC Department, DVLA in Swansea SA99 1ZZ."

When you sell a car these days you just fill in a form on the dvla's webpage stating the details from the current v5 and the new owners details. No need to sign anything and is actually really straightforward.
