Not as bumpy on a poor road - but noticeably more tyre roll on roundabouts

I've got 20" and 21". However, my 20" have wider off-road tyres on them so not a great comparison. |

Like Emperor Mong I have 20" for winter and 21" summer. Goodyear Duratrac 255/55R20 on 20s. Noticeably better on bad road surfaces, quieter and less bump transmission, and less 'tramlining' due to the tread pattern. I was pleasantly surprised. Downside is they are a bit noisier and I drive in a more 'hypermiling' stye due to lower speed rating. Handling difference/cornering not that noticeable for me, but my driving style has perhaps developed from the "drive the chassis" approach of the 2 door Classics rather than an Aston. As a general comment I like the 20s even if they are not very fashionable. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

Thanks everyone for your comments - Sounds like it's worth getting a set, if only to stick Winter tyres on |

I am actually quite surprised at this. Having just bought a L405 4.4 vogue se with 22 turbines I find it rides better than my l332 which had 22 in on recently swapped back to standard 20. Whilst my l332 is a lovely ride I find the more modern damping on the 405 more comfortable even riding on 22in wheels and at present I am alternating almost on a daily basis.

I'm also running 22's on my L405 AB thinking of getting a set of 20" wheels for doing some off roading. What happens with the TPMS sensors, can you order another set for the new wheels?

I swapped from 21’s to 20’s around 2,500 miles ago and much prefer the 20’s. It was only ever meant to be a temporary change but, within just a few miles, I knew it would be a permanent change for me

That's because the L322 was designed for 18-20's and the L405 was designed for 20-22's (though I think 19's are available) Larger sidewalls will always be better at absorbing bumps, but equally, they roll more when 'pressing on' through roundabouts etc. It very much depends on the roads you drive and how you drive them - and clearly looks come into it too..... |

Funnily enough, that was my original plan I only put them on, in March, to wear out the new Michelin Latitude Sports before next winter. Ironically, the 21's will only be going back on over the winter to use up the remaining tread on the, ever so good in snow, standard fitment Pirelli Verde AT's. |

I’ve got both 22 and 20”, in sizes 275/40/22 and 285/50/20. The 20” set are Cooper AT’s used during the shooting season for off road use / winter use.

I'm starting to wonder if a 21" would be the best compromise, between handling, off road capability, comfort and looks. L405 SDV8 Autobiography (MY13) |

Probably if decent tyres were available - but there are no AT or mud tyres available in 21” or 22” in even a remotely suitable size 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17 |

There's quite a selection of ATs in 275/55R20 in this part of the world - 32" instead of 31" but they fit the L405 without any concerns. I've just fitted Pirelli All Terrain Plus in this size to my L322 and expect them to take any punishment that I can dish out, although the BFG KO2 in the same size that they replaced didn't fare too well. |
