following any vehicle to close is stupid...this is how accidents happen and peeps get killed..

Í prefer to see what's going around me and the countryside rather than looking at the ar$e of a lorry for miles on end.  John

Method is to say set speed at 70, 80 mph in France. and then follow a slower vehicle. JLR’S cruise control speeds up and slows down with the vehicle in front


Whoops edited in error. Ain’t reposting! Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Two seconds space at 60mph is about 54m, not a particularly close space at all.
I would be willing to bet most drive significantly closer than that to the vehicle in front without being conscience of the time interval.

This is all true......but......if your following a truck at a two second interval that’s all you have, where as if your following a car/smaller vehicle you should be looking two or three vehicles in front which gives a much longer reaction time for braking etc, especially so in our vehicles which have a high eye point. David

You have the two seconds plus the time the vehicle in front takes to come to a stop before you might collide with it not just the net two seconds.

If you can't see past the lorry in front, you will have to keep a very close eye on the brake lights. So, if the lorry driver touches the brakes slightly you won't really know how hard to brake yourself and will probably stamp on your brakes just in case. This could lead to very stressful driving after any length of time. It may be an interesting experiment but I don't think it is conducive to relaxed driving, which after all is what a FF is all-out. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE
