Australia 2003 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Ipanema Sand
Camshaft Position Sensor Fault Bank 1

So I've recently bought a 2003 L322 with the M62 4.4.

I plugged in with my scan tool as you would and found a fault code for bank 1 camshaft position sensor.

When you monitor the advance/retard degree to crank angle info in the live data you can see why it's triggering a fault code.

Both graphs are set to the same scale, the bottom graph shows bank 2 (good sensor) flicks between - 0.1 to 0.2 which is fine the engine is just idling.

The top graph shows the problem sensor moving between 0.2 to 42 degrees.

This is not correct obviously the engine is just idling. However when I scoped the sensors I didn't see what I was expecting too. Both traces appear to show the sensors behaving exactly as they should be as far as I can tell the traces are identical.

This is the good sensor

This is the bad sensor

Afterwards I did think maybe I should scope the sensor at the Ecu incase there's a pinched wire disturbing the signal but if that was the case I would more expect to see nothing at all in the scan tool live data as in a short to ground.

Any ideas?

I can change the CMP although theres a bit of a wait for delivery and now I'm not entirely sure if the problem is with the sensor.
