2007 TDV8 complete electrical failure

Hi all

I have recently purchased this car, and twice now it has failed completely. Basically, you turn the ignition key which does not turn all the way and no electical activity at all. Cant even open glove box to get to the fuse box.

This morning i called the AA and they disconnected the battery, which as i understand it resets the car, and then it worked fine.

Its now back with the garage i purchased it from for a fix, and have already told them if it happens again its a refund or replace.

Can anyone shed any light on what it might be to make sure the garage does the correct work to fix this issue.

Below is the read out take from diagnostics by the AA man this morning.....

Thanks for any assistance you can give.....

I'm by no means an expert on this model or year, perhaps search here for ignition barrel failure........ Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

this sounds like what the Mercedes car fail on , the key reader fails so you get no power when turning the key , if I leave my key on the console around the gearstick and its too close to the key hole , its starts to click like crazy which is the key reader reconnising the key

My money would be on the ignition barrel, I’ve changed one myself and know of others from 07 that have needed it. It isn’t ruinously expensive and isn’t too hard to change.

+1 for the barrel. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Your call on a refund but if it is the ignition switch it's a known fault and when fixed its sorted. Another of similar age may well be the same 6 months down the line and then you will be picking up the tab.
Just my two penneth. Good luck with whatever you decide 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

Thanks Grofus, all covered by warranty so should be ok. Appreciate the thought though, thank you

Went for a car with less miles, and the 4.2SC. From the same dealer, so pretty fair all round.....
