United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Adriatic Blue

Hi John

I certainly wouldnt want to drive it any further than a few metres, what with the front slammed to the floor and the rear jacked up higher than ever (any idea why its so high? I mean way over normal off-road height), the front has maybe 3" clearance....

When you say
I wouldn't suggest trying to pull any of the air pipes, this is very dangerous. If you can't do it via the car itself or an IID tool, leave it as is.

is there a way of releasing the air in a safe manner, on the car itself? Other than with a plug in diagnostic tool?

Sorry for all the questions...

Hi just changed front strut on mine .Take inner liner off find block with air lines leading to top of strut unscrew the pipe leading to airbag disconect battery first that will deflate bag .Mine had a hole in it so I managed to change strut without deflating first as it was already flat good luck

Hi just changed mine on my TD6, the drivers side went with an almighty bang then hit the deck. Drive the 1/2 mile home and the passenger side had deflated.

Changed the complete units pretty simple really to do, best change them in pairs just make sure you spray the strut bolts up with penetrating oil
a day before and 10 mins before removing them.
My drivers side bolts went a sod to change had to end up hammering out the bolts and refitting new ones. Passenger side easy not problem with the bolts.

You could probably apply voltage to the solenoids to let the rear down.
Sorry, can't help with which pins.

I havent tried pulling pipes, just concerned of the potential risks if it goes wrong.
I would want to let it down in a controlled manner, which might be tricky if you release a pipe. Too many toys, not enough time

If you access the valve blocks behind the wheel arch liners, you can undo the brass nuts securing the pipes, do it slowly, and this will gently release the air in the bags. Rear (and front) valve block is drivers side

If the bag is burst it won't be pressurized so no need to worry

Cheers all, makes sense now. For whatever reason the drivers side either depressurised, or burst at the same time as the front is equally as low on both sides, so as long as i disconnect the battery the system will stay depressurised

And same process to deflate the rears? Find valve block under rear arch liner and let it out real slowly?

last question, once refitted, plugged in and switched on, will the RR inflate to the correct pressure and height? We will have a diagnostic tool to clear any faults etc

Looking at the front of the car it looks like I could pull the old bag out now, without even jacking it up Big Cry

Rear is a different story though, higher than I've ever seen it so ill need to depressurise that so that it will actually sit on axle stands when they are under it.. you could drive another RR under the rear at the moment Crying or Very sad

If you can't get to the valve block, you can crack off the connections to the compressor itself. Assuming TD6 is similar compressor wise to the TDV8 there is a valve block on the compressor - you will see the air in/out to the compressor and then hoses disappearing off into the car - these are the ones to undo slowly. Land Rover Addict

Unnecessary quote removed

Thanks for this Joe, at least now I can bring the back down to a reasonable height for when we work on the front.

Would I need to deflate the rear fully, or just enough so that when we re-pressurise the system it auto levels itself?

It doesn't matter how much you let it down, the car 'should' sort itself out as there are height sensors each corner.
Just let it down so it is convenient to work on.

If it is really really high at the back I would make sure the rear height sensors are still ok.
Have a look before you let it down to make sure they haven't disconnected.
Then check for fault codes with the tool once the front is done.

The cars have the ability to jack themselves up super high. No idea why it would do this but maybe the car is confused and tried to enter that mode.

Did a quick search and found this. No idea how you do it on a L322 though.

Information about Extended mode for the 2016 RR, but L322 may be similar ?

EXTENDED MODE

If the vehicle is grounded in severe off-road conditions, the electronic air suspension system may automatically enter into an extended mode. The electronic air suspension system rises automatically to assist in clearing the obstacle. In this event, the electronic air suspension system controls' indicator lamps flash and the message center displays an extended mode confirmation message. See ELECTRONIC AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS.

NOTES
The extended mode cannot be selected manually.

NOTES
Raising the vehicle with a jack may also cause the vehicle to enter into an extended mode.

Once the extended mode height is achieved, additional lifting can be requested, if required. Press the up-arrow button on the electronic air suspension system controls, for longer than 3 seconds.

Extended mode is automatically canceled when the vehicle's speed confirms that the body is no longer lifted or grounded. To manually cancel the extended mode, press the down-arrow button on the electronic air suspension system controls. Too many toys, not enough time
