Leaking coolant pump

Hello all, I need some advise about an issue with the coolant pump on my 4.4.
Here is how it started, I was doing a bit of beach riding and the engine must have got hot before cause the reservoir tank burst, my fault as ihad overfilled the cooling system. Doing a bit of research as to why the cap never released, I foundries to be a common problem so I ordered another tank and a genuine 140 kpa cap. While waiting for delivery I flushed the system a couple of times and filled the system using my temporary repaired tank. With the nice new green coolant in the car I noticed a drip from under the engine. Cleaning up and railing under I found the leak seemed to be coming from the shift of the pump, I ordered another pump and started to pulleverything apart. When I removed the pump I was surprised to find the pump looked like brand new, even the impeller looked new, when I turned the pump over coolant ran from what looks like a plugged port on the underside of the pump. Can anyone advise if this can be repaired and what it does, the plug I mean.
