Black smoke ( photos )

Following up on the posts on here about black smoke I had the car on ramps to lube the turbo actuators then run a can of wynns thro the air intake , must admit it seems a lot better ,
So I thought check these two intercooler pipes as the cars been woofing black smoke on hard acceleration and yes you guessed right

And here's the temp repair whilst I wait for new ones to arrive

Went for a quick blast one woof of smoke and then it seems to have cleared
Cheers for the help Thumbs Up

Replace the other side at the same time - it won’t be too far behind Thumbs Up

I don't get smoke or anything, but was thinking of doing the pipe replacement as a "best before it does go" type of job, reading some of the other threads about how some think things like this can cause issues later if they do split, i think i shall do mine when it stops raining.

Can of Wynns?

I had the exact same problem as you with the black smoke. I changed the two BIG pipes under the bonnet and the black smoke went away Smile.
Can you please tell me if the 'can of wynns' is easy to administer and what benefits will i get ?
Cheers. 'Knowledge Is Power'

Injection cleaner

Any particular cleaner recommended for a L322 TD8? And regarding the Wynns EGR cleaner, do I squirt it into the ( as I look at the bonnet from the front of the car) right hand air pipe or left hand one please?

If you're using the spray type you can either take the air filter cover off and spray from there or the two intake pipes off at the same place and spray alternately in short bursts
As to the benefits mine seems to be a lot more responsive but on inspection the air filter housing wasn't seated correctly and I did a temp repair on the intercooler hoses as well as lubed the turbo actuators so either of these could have caused the better feel of the engine
On a definite note I Finnish work in the early hours and had a definite rev fluctuation when cold but that has now almost disappeared and there seems to be little or no smoke Thumbs Up
Cheers
