European road trip advice/suggestions

I'm in the process of planning our European road trip for August this year and after anyones advice or suggestions and things to see or do.

My plans to:

Start at Brugge then possibly Amsterdam,

On to Luxemburg, down through Switzerland

Milan/Genoa in Italy

across the coast to Monaco/ Nice

Back up through France and the Champagne region finishing at Paris.

Any thoughts? TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Any room in the boot for a small one? Sounds great. We're off to France with the FFRR and tin tent in june. I've never had any issues in europe, on bikes or otherwise.
The usual considerations: Breakdown cover, medical cover, the various in car accessories for the regions you travel in, vests bulbs warning triangles, mobule phone bolt on for europe (costs a bob or two across the water especially www roaming). Ian

Hi,

I did that route last summer and would suggest:

Lake Maggiore in Switzerland/Italy border

Mountain Pass from Maggiore to Davos then Davos to St Moritz then St Moritz to Lake Como and then onto Milan

Coastal Towns/Villages West of Genoa

Monaco then drive the coastal route all the way to Carmargue

Route to Paris via Milau Bridge......

I did all that and more in a 28 ft Motorhome so it should be a breeze in the Range Rover Thumbs Up

i have noticed that drivers over there on 2/3 lane roads, indicate to come out at the same time they pull out, they then politely pull back in leaving the 'fast' lane clear...not like over here where drivers just hog the middle or fast lane... ... - .- -.

i used to drive from antwerp to turin, then on to monaco every 2 weeks and believe me the french arent that friendly, they come up behind you with their lights flashing and the indicator on nearly all the time 2002 td6 vogue, 06 supercharged facelift

italy is a very nice country to drive in, if you drive along the west coast, from france cannes, nice, monaco, san remo, then into genova, down to livorno, visit pisa, then on to rome, only 2 lane motorways though, but the scenery is great 2002 td6 vogue, 06 supercharged facelift

Maybe a detour to enter Italy via the Stelvio Pass, and a hundred hairpin bends............

Lovely trip. In 2008 I did:

Surrey to Montreux Switzerland through Italy to Monaco then Lyon and home.

I left on the Thursday and was home on Sunday afternoon. 1800 miles of fantastic roads.

James Thumbs Up

Don't forget the visitors centre if you get a chance (located underneath the bridge)

For the French autoroutes see https://www.telepeagepourtous.fr/fr/particulier/souscrire - 10 Euros for the box and then 2 Euros for each month that you use the peage (on top of the standard peage fees) - saves trying to pay through the passenger window on a RHD car (charges to your credit card registered against the radio transponder) and there are usually smaller queues in the orange lanes !

Interesting - I've have only seen left & right windows at the chunnel, not on the autoroutes - although I haven't been expecting a window on my side of the car to be honest, so maybe I wasn't looking hard enough !
