Right, I've got my IIDTool and plugged it in and read the HVAC fault code...

41 - Park Heater Message Disturbance Fault, it tells me.

Have cleared it a few times and retried the heater, fault comes back. Symptom is that that fans run for a few minutes but the heater doesn't fire, then the fans shut down. Same sympton whether you use the Remote Control or the Timed Climate settings on the screen.

Any ideas? Graham

Update.

Have now tried every possible combo of reset, fire, trip, remote, reset, whatever, no joy. I give up...

Unless anyone has any bright ideas I need an independent expert to look at it. Graham

Probably being stupid but doesn't the temperature need to be pretty cold before the Fuel Burning Heater fires up? 2012 5.0L S/C

I did look this up.

Needs to be 16 degrees or under for the cabin heater, which it was - it was in fact 15 degrees. I assume that the cabin heater ECU reads the external temp as displayed on the cabin screen, rather than figuring its own (different) reading out, but there may be something in it, I'll try tonight once its gotten under 10 degrees. Graham

i think the outside temperature has to be below a certain level before the FBH kicks in, and not the internal temp... ... - .- -.

Yes, sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the "Outside Temperature" as displayed on the cabin screen, has to be 16 degrees or less, which it was so I;d expect the heater to start.

It's got a fault which I can clear with my new toy, but it comes back again. Graham

Mine has been working at temps for the last few months when i try it, as even when the temp is above the fans kick in to air cool the cabin or vent to atmosphere, the heat that can build up inside the ffrr

Have you checked to ensure the heater is getting fuel or thought about sourcing a unit from a scrapper and see if it will just plug in?

TBH I don't even know where the heater is. It's buried somewhere in the bowels of the engine bay. The Disco one is easily seen and accessible... Graham

Possibly the glowplug?

I had a similar issue with an aux heater on, dare I say, a Galaxy diesel , Changed the unit's glow plug and all was fine.

Yes, have tried that, defo no gases.

@Scarey, the wiki tells me all of the things that should happen, but doesn't tell me why mine doesn't fire, and doesn't interpret the fault code returned by the IIDTool.... , so. I'm better informed, but no nearer a solution. Graham

Been looking at this for a friend with an X5. You can put power to pin 1 on the connector and that will fire up the heater to make sure it's working. They quite often seize or something as they aren't used that often. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

If something can't be fixed with a hammer....... You have yourself an electrical fault!

My FBH on the 2007 FFRR Vogue SE failed last winter during the really bad snow in November.

A common failure point, is the glowplug in the FBH, it will try to start with fan coming on but not ignite, this had happened to mine.

It was replaced but still did not function and showed similar symptoms to those you describe - fans come on but no heat. FBH fires up momentarily then dies.

Guava had the car for several days and corresponded with LR technical. It transpired the HVAC system is a BMW system (likely the same as an X5 as they have a few common components). LR terminated the technical support agreement with BMW in 2009/10 including software mods, it was a software issue on mine. However LR developed a patch which was downloaded to my car and the FBH operated as per normal. Thankfully this was all done under warranty otherwise it would have cost thousands given the workshop time, the FBH replacement part was £1200 alone.

It was finally fixed in early this year after all the snow had finished, I had many cold trips to work as the engine takes ages to warm up if the FBH is malfunctioning.
