We have them and electric brakes
I have a caravan with electric brakes and a cable hand brake
i think they are magic, they are adjustable from in the cab, so depending how much weight you have, you adjust them to suite
we also have chains from the tow bar to the trailer RR 2005 4.4 petrol

All trailers over 750kg or are there exceptions to that ?

No chains In the U.K. - again, IMHO the yank trailers are better

Found the plug after lots of rummaging around. It was really tucked up and had to get my head right down in the wheelwell to see it.

Having the photos of what I was looking for helped massively.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Project for my day off on Tuesday is to change the front discs and pads. Never tried before, so looking forward to the challenge.

Not one that I could see, I'm afraid, but then, I'm not the best at this sort of thing....sorry, but there wasn't anything else handing around down there.

UK wiring does not include a connection for electrically operated brakes as they are not normally used over here.

Maybe the the Australian RR loom is different but doubtful. I would expect the electric brake facility to be installed as a specialist item.
Does the Australian electric braking system use a separate socket?

The UK auxiliary safety electric brake (AL-KO ATC) that operates if the trailer starts to sway excessively gets power from the permanent live supply on 7 or 14 pin plug.. Forty years of progress. 1972-2012

Electric brake standard wiring in Australia uses pin 5, being one of the UK 2 trailer tail light circuits. This wire has to be cut to prevent the trailer brakes being applied when the tail-lights are on, then a separate electric brake controller wired into the pin 5 wire. Stability control where fitted to a van can be wired to use the power wire in the white socket or a dedicated HD circuit installed.
