Smart meters

Just switched provider as present was going up at an alarming rate.

Have had a smart meter fitted for over a year, which they have allegedly been using to work out my bills.

However just checked my on line account, guess what my final reading was estimated. contacted the supplier who stated the smart meter only works on the electric meter.

Glad I've left them Three things in a blokes life his dog,his car and a Cornish pasty, nothing else matters.

We were with SSE until our lock-in expired. We had a SSE smart meter fitted and after a while it kept beeping to let you know it was no receiving a signal to mother. I'm a light sleeper and could hear this beeping over a couple of night. One night I got annoyed and went to the kitchen, unplugged the bloody thing and launched it up the garden Whistle .
We've now changed supplier and put in the figures each month saving a small fortune.

The gadget got put in the blue recycle bin.

Steve.

Smart meter will lead to smart billing in time .
They're not there for your benefit
None will be getting past our threshold

I have smart meters installed via OVO energy. I don’t use the energy consumption gizmo, it’s boring data, but the meters send their readings each month over the ether to OVO and it’s all great so far as I’m concerned. I guess I successfully have smart billing.

Am I missing something?
I take my own readings every month and submit it via the eon app.....and switch off all lights and stuff that’s not being used.
Am I normal? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I think smart billing will mean that the suppliers will know in real time when you, as an individual consumer, are using most electric power and bill you at a higher unit rate, never mind the time or nationwide demand. Evil or Very Mad

So use more than one glow worm power lamp and up goes your unit rate.

or am I bring cynical Rolling Eyes Cheers

I'm supposed to be having a smart meter fitted next Monday (my choice and its free) - Is it not worth the hassle then as I believe they swap the gas an electric meters as well.

Wife had one fitted, the irony of having a plug in device to tell you how much power you are using. Been in the drawer ever since, load of old boll@cks..

Weve had one for a couple of years and find it very useful.

Our situation is perhaps a little different though. I have air conditioning fitted which can heat as well as cool and really wanted to know if it was cheaper for heating than using gas. The end result was quite interesting, at about -8 deg C the heat pump is about the same cost as running the gas boiler, anywhere above -8 deg C the heatpump is cheaper.

Other minor but noticeable things, LED 'V' energy saving light bulbs, LED cheaper to run and give out more light.

Theres no downside to having a smart meter, sometimes its just good to know whats what. BMW i3 Electric Car

Seems if you have 2 electric supplies into your home you can't get a smart meter. As usual if you are not 'standard' you get nothing 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Changing supplier means changing smart meter - what a load of tosh.

As sad above - not for the customers benefit in the long run.
Its so easy to submit readings every month.

We have just switched to a new green firm called Bulb - so far so good and the savings are already being noticed - all without the benefit of a smart meter! Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus
