I need to get a big SUV and would like to get into a RR bit a lot of people are flagging that they are still unreliable compared to day a BMW. How much truth is in this? What are the common issues and are they easy to fix?

Also, does anyone know when Euro 6 compliant cars came out? Did any sneak out before September 2015?

A bit of care is needed with regard to when Euro 6 started.
Some 2015 cars on 65 plates are Euro 6.
Some 2016 cars on 65 plates are not Euro 6.
As far as I am aware nearly all 2016 cars on 16 plates onwards should be Euro 6.
I think the road tax on the Euro 6 cars is cheaper by approx. £200 so this may help if looking on Land Rover AU web site.
A lot of dealers especially outside London do not seem to know anything about Euro 6.

It seems to be a bit of a minefield as they were allowed to sell old stock for a while. My wife travels into London quite a lot so I don't fancy paying £12.50 every time which would soon mount up.

Not had any major problems with my last 2 (3.0TDV and 5.0SC). Just the boot playing up and infotainment crashing, locking up. I'll probably keep the current one until the new model arrives, so fingers crossed!

2021/22 at a guess

How good are LR at paying out on their warranty? They seem to be quite highly rated.

I think they get a lot of practice at it....

I never had issues with manufacturer's warranty, if anything they were doing work that I was unaware was needed like swapping out brakes and wipers (yes, wipers!). After 3 years I did not extend LR but rather went with Warranty Direct whom I have been very pleased with. Professional, good value, comprehensive cover like wear & tear.

The LR manufacturer's warranty and the Extended/ Approved Used Warranty are good. In the latter case, it's expensive (approx £1500/year) so it should be!

12 months in with an L405 and it has been very reliable.

If you do your homework and buy based on a sound history and good condition, you should be able to buy with some confidence.

An observation:
During the past 12 months with the L405, when it has been into a main dealer for service and maintenance work, on more than one occasion they have contacted me to advise that certain remedial works were required, asking if I would authorise payment for them to proceed; and on those occasions I've checked the warranty and ended up telephoning the LR warranty provider to be told that said items are covered under warranty. So, I've ended up reminding the main dealer (who sold me the car) that the car has an A.U LR warranty and advising them that what they have been asking me to pay for is covered under the warranty they supplied with the car. The most recent occasion was two front suspension control arms. What comes to mind is that perhaps they CBA and hope that Sir will just stump up more cash. So, the L405 is reliable, as for the MD experience... 🙄

In my experience reliability is far far better than it used to be, the last 3 RR’s I have had no major issues just the odd small niggle. However, we have personally experienced 4 engine failures in 40 odd years of LR / RR ownership - thus unless you can afford to drop £10k on a major component failure don’t contemplate running such an expensive car without a warranty. Trust me I have only ever run LR products and have learned the hard way - but imho they are no worse than any other maker, and to be perfectly honest I have absolutely no desire to own or drive any other vehicle. Bentley Bentayga’s and Cullinan’s are naff and for footballers and property developers with no taste - you wouldn’t see the Royal Family or PM in one..... 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

I’m with Vogue. I have had three beasts, the first one had an alternator at 70,000 miles... second rear window as the radio was playing up. Other than that nothing of significance- touch wood  Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Dealers have same attitude.....

Tried all 3 German brands and even Toyota Customer Service isn't what it used to be.

Resale on a LR product is better than any of the other premium brands.
