Why not just replace engine oil filter?

Hi folks, I was wondering if it would be beneficial to replace the engine oil filter alone, without dropping the oil,say every 3 months, aside from doing it during the proper prescribed oil change?
With the filter being on top of my engine (Tdv8) this req no oil drained and being so inexpensive it could be a simple job that helps keep oil cleaner longer? Or is the whole idea stoopid? Bow down Embarassed 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

I used to be indecisive and have a split personality... but we are ok now...I think?

Good idea never thought of that. A friend at work uses one of these hand pump thingies and pumps out the oil ever 6 months via the dip stick tube, changing the oil filter yearly.

Hi, I’d rather drop the oil than pump it out to try to get any crud out of the sump.Obviously youd change the filter at that time, I’m suggesting changing the filter alone in between normal changes seeing as they cost a tenner and would take 15 mins or so, my thinking is every little bit helps, especially when it comes to mollycoddling ya turbos! I suppose how effective this is can only really be gauged once you take the second one out. If it is still serviceable and clean there would not be much point. An oil change is so easy especially with a sucker and relatively cheap (£50.00 oil and filter from Opie) that I just do the lot every 6 months. Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus
