Deplorable side steps paint peeling off

The paint was peeling off and under warranty they replaced with new side steps.
The new side steps are metal but top layer is rubber coated and bottom part of side step has plastic cover.
Looks much better.
Dealer mentioned there is techinical bulletin on side steps.any one have same problem should contact and most likely they will replace. My vehicle is under warranty till jan 2019

I'd find it deplorable if the paint was peeling off them, too. Smile Ron B. VK2OTC

I have black metal ones with the same issue and today I will be painting them up again to look fresh, they are all scratched. I will take pictures of the restoration

I used some scotch bright on the aluminium, and a sanding block on the board, 3 coats later and there she is... the nice thing is it's now 100 anti slip as it's textured rather like grip tape on a skate board ( if kids still use that stuff in our days anyway! )

Thought I would share Smile

That looks a great job, thanks for posting that. I am just about to do mine as they are flaking. Broke the rule of a lifetime and took it to the local car wash. Their uber powerful jet wash power stripped the paint on the side of my steps. Looks awful from the side now. Not sure is it powder coated? Anyway, I was wondering whether you took yours all the way down to bare metal or feathered the stripped edges and went from there? Did you paint the side of the steps as well as the top surface? 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)

I painted it all, sides included. No bare metal. I just lightly sanded

Nice job! Mine has a similar problem, and I had figured out that this should be a good solution, but great to have that confirmed. Philip in Oxford
