Trackers

So it looks like I will need a tracker fitted for my insurance as I can't find a policy thats cheaper that doesn't need one. So for those who have had one fitted what did you get and if you don't mind me asking why did you pick that one ? thanks Thumbs Up 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

Land Rover do a tracker option don't they?

Then you can be sure that it wont mess with the vehicle electrics so you wont be chasing battery drains for the rest of your ownership.

mine has one fitted but the previous owner did not continue the cover because it made no difference to insurance premiums

when i bought the car i asked prudential aka now the fecking nodding dog!! if there was any discount for the tracker - NO

though they tried to sting me for an extra premium for factory fitted tints

i think i used a colloquial term for 'go forth and multiply' Laughing

The LR one is very sophisticated requiring you to have a special "key" , the car's movements are always monitored I believe unlike other tracker systems. You will also get it linked to your mobile phone. I have a Tracker tracker that LPR fitted to the car in their ownership. Setting up was simple even though the "policy" had been dormant for 4 months. Simple enough that my Power of Attorney who deals with things while I'm away and she is 83 years old managed to do it with no help! The car now has lifetime enablement for the princely sum of £350.
I think you will find that most of the companies that insist of a tracker are the "discount" insurers and most of them are owned by the people of the UK via Royal Bank of Scotland who own Tracker................. Land Rover Insurance (the old scheme run by Royal and Sun Alliance) doesn't require them and gives no discount if you do fit one. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

That'll be the "new" LRI, operated by S***stones, not the original one backed by Land Rover who will now only deal with existing LR clients and not new business.............. I asked the new crowd for a quote for my current car, not only did they insist on a tracker but they wanted in excess of £1000 premium when I have been paying £357pa for the TDv8 RRS then RSI only wanted £11 additional premium to upgrade to the FFRR, and there is better cover through RSI. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Tracker has its own on board power supply that basically lies dormant until its powered up/activated by Tracker. It doesn't take any feed from the vehicle battery. Otherwise, the thieves would just disconnect the battery and tow it away. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Actually, most trackers take power and switched ignition from the car, they have a battery backup to keep them operating when the main battery is disconnected.

Battery technology has a long way to go before trackers have a stand alone power supply that lasts the life of the tracker.

I've yet to see a tracker that doesn't draw from vehicle systems - yes they have a battery backup. But the whole time they are connected to the car's electrical system they are draining the battery - albeit very slowly.

As we know, it doesn't take much to upset the RR's electronics, and I just think if you must have a tracker fitted - get a LR one fitted in the hopes that they know what they're doing.

Things must have changed then - I remember having the Tracker fitter come round to a garage where I used to work and he showed me the unit. I asked him how it was powered up and that's what he told me. There was no way of attaching a power feed to it if I recall correctly. I recall asking him how they could rely on just a battery and what were the chances of it going flat. His reply was that it would never go flat as it wasn't used until it was activated.
I remember him fitting it to a Rover Tomcat and he had to pretty much evacuate the garage, so no-one could see how or where he'd fitted it to the car.
It was going back a few years though- around the time when they'd just come out. Things might be different now in that case. I've been off the spanners for about 10 years now. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

We have an satellite transponder security system on all ships as part of our ex 9/11 and also anti piracy security. The system is normally Mains powered, will work from our emergency generators, our 24v radio back up power and from a internal battery, if cabling to any of those power inputs is cut the system automatically starts transmitting so with modern technology it cannot be difficult to do the same for a car's transponder system - with our system it also works if the antenna or built-in GPS cabling is cut the system also gets triggered. All this is contained in unit about the size of a net book computer too and has hidden trigger switches located around the ship 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
