Inchcape Land Rover York - Spare not roadworthy

In November 2017 I purchased a low milage spotless L405 from Land Rover York. Couple of weeks ago while in France I needed to change a wheel - When I opened the boot I found a large gash on the sidewall of the otherwise new spare.

So I ended up buying two new tyres.

No problem I thought, when back in the UK they will reimburse me for the unusable spare. Wrong, in a call today they said that their pre delivery check do not include the spare and therefore they could not help.

LR Customer service state that while the pre-delivery check does not include the state of the spare wheel (?) then the approved use multi point check does.

To battle !

Well, I am pleased to say that they have agreed to meet the cost of replacing the spare. After initially saying that the spare was not covered by the pre-delivery checks, I called LR who said that as this was an approved used it was subject to a multi point check that should include the spare.

Escalated internally and their very nice head of business has agreed to meet my bill - Thank you LR York!

Buit it's not 'thank you LR York' really though is it? They clearly hadn't done the multi-point check and then they tried to fob you off by saying that it wasn't included in the check when they should have known damn well it was. Usual appalling standard of customer service we put up with in this country.

They should have apologised immediately, sorted you out and given you some sort of freeby, then they should have carried out an internal audit to find out why the checks hadn't been done properly (not that any of them do them!). Drives:

its most likely a spotty 17 year old apprentice did the check and didnt bother doing it properly....the dealership isnt going to waste the time of a qualified master technician to do the inspection... ... - .- -.

I'm sorry but I have a real bee in my bonnet about customer service. It doesn't matter who did the 'inspection' there's no excuse for it not being done properly. I'll put pound to a penny that LR themsleves never audit their dealerships on this issue, so it's no surprise the dealerships don't bother. But it still isn't good enough. Drives:
