Now pretty hacked off, I bought a new removeable tow ball for my new to me Rangie and was looking forward to a few days away. Tow ball arrived special delivery, the right one so i fitted it, went to storage to pick my caravan. All went well until I went to plug in the lighting. Look at the state of the wiring, it's a wonder there hasnt been a fire.

I think it's going to be quite a mess, I just hope it's not damaged any modules involved. BMW i3 Electric Car

Thanks for that I'll have a look and check it all out, I may as well upgrade to 13 pin plug at the same time. J BMW i3 Electric Car 2012 Full Fat RR 4.4 TDV8 (now gone) 2006 VW Touareg 3.0 TDi V6 |

Worth changing to a 13 pin. IIRC there are at least 3 fuses to do with tow electrics, 2 in the boot and 1 in behind the glove box.

Remember that 13 pin Euro socket has to work at MoT time - it is checked as part of the test.

It had definitely been on fire the wiring behind the plugs. Ive traced the wiring to the connector in the sapre wheel well and having replaced three fuses now have appropriate lighting signals. Just need to trace out the fridge, battery charge and rev light signals and can wire the new socket.
