Rear tailgate woes

My rear tailgate is having a bit of a hissy fit.

The bottom liftgate is not latching on the nearside properly. This prevents the top tailgate closing and causes much irate bleeping (from both the Rangie and me).

It closes but needs a manual shove to the nearside top edge to get the car to register that it is closed.

I decided to give a light WD40 spray to see if that eased it. It didn't.

However, in doing that I looked at the offside cable that retracts to close the bottom liftgate. The plastic insulation is cracked and I can see the wire.

Back to the dealer methinks.

Anything to help in the meantime?

I know this is a while after the last post, but did you get this sorted as I have a similar issue.

My lower tailgate has packed up completely - I've kind of got used to closing it manually again......

I had it booked in to the dealer and then managed to lose the key away from home for a day. This meant the car was stuck in a car park at the time it was supposed to be collected. Since then, the thing has fixed itself. I do want them to look at the fraying cable though so I will book it in again. Shooting season means I need the car more now though.

Did you get this fixed? If so was it a dealer warranty fix?
