Hi its likely that my Range Rover will be requiring LR assured recovery tomorrow. What size of courtesy car could be expected (I have a family airport run with mega suitcases) whilst my vehicle is being looked at? Any experiences or suitable words to get a SUV?

Back when I had a Freelander 2 which got recovered, I was given another one in the same spec and was told LR Assist will always try and put you in a car at least the same spec as your own, so if that’s still true you should get a ff or at worst a tricked up Disco rather than an ewok

When my Westie was out of action last year LR provided me with a Disco Sport as a hire car from Gatwick as it was a weekend and late evening.
When I spoke to them they were most apologetic that they didn't have a FF available and assured me that they would swap the disco sport in a few days.
In the end they didn't need to as mine was back in a couple of days.

Why not get the dealer to pay for a cab/limo service, large enough for your needs, to and from the airport. I'm guessing whilst you're away you're not going to be using the car so no good to you or LR if it's sitting in an airport car park.

courtesy cars from LR assist are usually subcontracted to Thrifty car hire for upto 7 days. After that the dealer should provide you with a car if yours is still in for repairs. The warranty handbook says you can hire your own car but it must be pre approved by LR and you must sort your own insurance.

Dealers usually give evoques or disco sports - LR assist likewise but sometimes a jaguar XE or XF. Occasionally you get lucky and get something bigger like a disco but rarely.
There are no obligations under the LR assist for them to provide like for like (common misconception). When talking to them just talk nicely, explain the situation to see what they can offer.

When my 322 was covered by LRA there were several occasions when a hire car was to be provided. I was told that one is meant to get a LR vehicle, at least the level below i.e. RR Sport or Disco 5 if they can't supply a RR. My experience was that they struggled to provide anything at all, and I was offered various unsuitable things e.g. Defender 110 in base spec which would not fit in the garage (too tall). I never got a RR.

The other issue that annoyed me was that the terms of the LR/hire car company (not Thrifty in those days) were such that one was required to accept a double excess on insurance and pay something on credit card as a deposit towards traffic fines etc. I declined a hire car the first time because I was not willing to accept that, then complained to the dealer and LR Customer Relations about it. I was just in the mood for that kind of thing as I needed a new gearbox after eight days of ownership... Their line of "nothing we can do it's the hire car company's terms" was obviously nonsense, as the deal will be whatever LR negotiate and are willing to pay for. On another occasion when I needed the hire car I said I would accept the car but complain to LRCR immediately, the hire company restricted the take from my credit card to £1. IMHO LR should put the customer in no worse position than if the vehicle supplied was working and available (recognising that hire companies won't have SVOs etc), the terms offered fall short.

Be ready to complain to the dealer and LRCR if the hire company falls short, the squeaking wheel seems to get the grease. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I made it a condition of the sale that when ever my car was in for service or broke down that the dealer would make sure I had a range rover to drive around in.

its just been in for updates on software and the suspension recall and we drove around in their 2018 demo, was nice car and loved the twin screens but wife said they were a bit bright and destracting to use.

Good luck with making it a condition of the sale........

I can't see any way they will commit - in writing - to having a specific car to give you in the event of an unplanned incident - it would always be caveated with best efforts / equivalent etc etc

When my 911 Turbo had to be recovered they sent me a Diesel BMW 3 series... I told them to come back and take it away the next day!

Hi, thanks for feedback everyone.
So my oil service light came on with 0 miles left to drive (read elsewhere about my oil dilution woes with my TDV6 RR) I called LR Assist and asked if I could drive my vehicle still the first response was yes you will be fine for 300 miles or so, I then put it to the Lady on the phone that this was the second early call for an oil service and according to internal document JLR Service Notification JLRP 00100 that if a Customer continues to drive after an oil service light illuminates the engine WILL fail. The LR Assist Lady put me on hold to speak to a technical advisor and a moment later I was told not to drive my vehicle and a recovery vehicle would be organised together with a loan vehicle. So I was provided with a Jaguar E Pace (brand new) I managed to get one suitcase in the hatch area a second suitcase wouldn't allow the steeply raked hatch lid to close so it ended up jammed in between child seat and rear passenger on the rear bench. Vehicle drove very well and good on the twisty stuff. My RR when checked had an oil dilution rate of 7.5% which required another oil and filter change the OBC when downloaded had recorded 40 DPF regenerations in 3000 miles of driving since the last oil change. No one seems to be able to tell me what is causing this exceptionally high rate of DPF regeneration cycles, I'm getting 41 mpg as a constant indicated I drive 50 miles to and 50 miles from work sitting at speeds of between 45 and 60 mph. I have a Customer Complaint running with JLR Customer Services at Lode Lane and two dealerships have now submitted A further Customer Complaint and a request for Technical advice over the high DPF dilution cycle rate. I've also contacted Black Horse Finance who I used to purchase the vehicle who have submitted a complaint to JLR on my behalf.
I just wonder if its time to contact the Car Mags or watchdog. Again Marshall Landrover carried out the oil and filter service as goodwill but I think they will run out of patience with me at some point........
