Sounds maybe like a leak in the intake system. Take the engine cover off and see if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. |

That is where I was thinking, I'm thinking it should be fairly easy to find!

Not on mine it's not. Unless I'm full throttle accelerating, then it makes a nice screaming noise. |

Great stuff, thanks for that. Will try and investigate in the next few days - annoying really as I wanted to use it tomorrow but looks like we'll be in the pickup again! 2005 E60 M5

reads like you've split a boost hose to me or could easily have just popped off , as the others have suggested already , I reckon it will be obvs once you are under the bonnet |

I had an air intake/leak noise under WOT that sounded like it came from behind the glovebox that was a split hose underneath the throttle body. I had no EML and no faults stored but lack of power and fuel consumption was less than 200 miles to a full tank.

It sounds like I'm looking in the right direction then. I've a friend who's going to pop round with a snap on diagnostic tool to get some codes out of it and see whats going on.

I managed to get 15 minutes on it today. Took the engine covers off and found a fairly big air leak on the pcv valve. So I'm going to start there, I've found reference to someone with similar symptoms and it was the pcv valve So it's got to be worth a try!

I have a new PCV valve on its way from Duckworths so I'm going to start there. Have you identified where the air leak is on yours? 2005 E60 M5

My air leak sounds like it’s coming from the back of the engine on the same side as the pcv valve. I have also changed the pvc valve but the leak is still there!.
