Im about to buy a new head unit for my P38, as the original head unit has given out, can anyone offer me some advice, any extra's or adaptors I need to Buy.

Hi Alex,

First question - Did you have the Harmon Kardon upgrade kit in your P38 with DSP amp? If so, there are a couple of options.

1st - you will have to bypass all that kit as there are door amps in each door to power up the speakers. A standard stereo will not work using this lot. You could go the route of adding resistors in line to bring the power output down but it's a faff.

I added a Kenwood flip screen to my P38 (with Nav, Bluetooth, DVD, TV etc) using the low output cables and this works fine fine. Any single din unit will work and you can get the standard RR to ISO connector leads from AutoLeads.

Quick Tip if you do have the dsp fitted and go via the low output route - Using the old Head Unit, setup the dsp to however you like it (volume, spacial setting etc) as you will not be able to alter this once you connect the new HU. The dsp does however remember your setting so you still benefit from the settings used before you disconnected the old one.

2nd - If you don't have the HK upgrade and dsp then it's an easy swap out for standard singe din units. Same Autoleads cable will be required though.
