Crusty Undies!

MOT & Service done, techie says “your underneath is a tad crusty”. He wasn’t wrong, I’d been under there three or four years ago & sprayed a little Waxoyl over bits & pieces but didn’t realise she was this bad, all surface rust, but still. Always amazes me how a car of this magnitude & ilk can’t have a longer lasting coating from new…..or am I expecting too much since she’s nearly 14 years old?
Always been a Waxoyl man (age thing) but decided to try Lanoguard which everyone man & his horse is raving about. It’s an annual thing opposed to Waxoyl, but we’ll see.
Rubbed everywhere down that I could get to, gave it a good going over, needs to ‘bake’ for a few days.
Time will tell.

England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

I concur, not too bad at all... Thumbs Up

BTW Waxoyl was good 50 years ago but the technology has moved forward massively and Waxoyl is selling the same product it did those 50 years ago....

I used it for years and found that it totally dried out over time and shrunk causing it to crack and let water in to rust, it's "healing" properties had gone because it was so dry and hard...

There are far better products out there these days...

Sheep fat is good but doing it every year is a bit of a pain..... Thumbs Up Pete

For a fourteen year old car that look absolutely mint, IMO. It's certainly much better than both my dad's '15 Evoque and my mate's '65 Disco Sport that I was working on the other night. Just get it doused in a good layer of Bilt Hamber Dynax UB and you'll be fine. I've seen much worse '11/'12 cars when I've been looking recently, even ones that have lived away from the sea. No underbody paint/e-coat is thick, nor tough, and will start to rust pretty quickly around the sharp corners of the pressed steel parts where the coating is the thinnest. If you want to make yourself feel better, just have a look at the chassis on a less than three year Old Ford Ranger or Mitsubishi L200!

Men of a certain age remember, as you rightly say, Waxoyl was probably the only coating back in the day & I suppose the name sticks in your mind. I’ve got enough Lanoguard for another blitzing this time next year then will look at others such as Dynax. Thanks. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

IMO you still can’t beat painting most of the bits underneath with grease and then spraying oil into the nooks and crannies. Certainly worked for me over the years. Thumbs Up
