Hi guys my TD6 is on 150000 just wondering if an oil change in both diffs is needed at this milage?

It certainly can't hurt, if it has not been changed before it will black and 'orrible!

Use the correct specified fluids and make sure that the fill plugs will undo before you drain the diffs. .

Just stumbled on this post gents, Joe would it be better to drain the diff oils once its been driven for a while and warmed up, to get more of the cr@ppy old stuff out?

Absolutely it would be better to warm the diffs first sir

Thanks again for the info Emirates, will get into routine of changing the oils more regularly

Am just getting over an extra £500 spend last night on 2 new front air struts and other bits, so feeling almost as deflated as my poor old front shocks today....

Me blonde, might I suggest you go out and liberally spray the bolts through the hub & shocker with penitrating fluid so they get as long as possible to soak before the job is undertaken sir... I would do it 6 hourly if it were mine 👍

Will WD40 be ok? Or plus gas from work? Was going to soak every part I can get to at the moment, and the rest once she’s trailered home

WORTH MENTIONING:

When you get the old ones out - FIT NEW LR Drain & Fill plugs - never use the old ones ( A piece of mind )
and Don't forget never Torque up bolts/plugs when the casings hot - let it go cold ( metal expands when hot - you need to tight fit and at the correct Torque value as recommended by what you are working on.

I tend to keep 20 of everything in stock at home - especially oil filters / drain plugs and brake nipples

Can I check a couple of part numbers with you, been trawling the russian parts catalogue and still struggling with diff and transfer box plug numbers, I have:

Transfer box - Fill & drain plugs TYB500110

Front Diff Fill plug TYB000010
Front Diff Drain plug TYP000220

Rear Diff Fill plug ?
Rear Diff Drain plug TGZ000030

No worries if not, but thought you may have them to hand

Perhaps its worth posting a picture of your FF in Mongolia - its one massive country and well worth the drive if you are in Russia !

Fitting third party kit not worth the risk - They were built at Solihull with British Parts !

Sorry Emirates, bit of confusion. I use the russian parts catalogue as its favourited on my computer (someone on here shared a link to it, and its easiest for me to navigate, even without my cossack hat on )

I live in Hertfordshire so nowhere near the former soviet block, and the only brown bears I have to face are the plush ones our dog rips the stuffing out of

All sorted now for the numbers, and ordered from a well known online supplier. Cheers again for your help!

Quick update all, change both diffs and transfer box oil last week finally, and just a warning to anyone whos doing it - The stuff absolutely stinks! So much so, I'd left the drain pan beside the front door to go and get a funnel and empty containers to dispose of it correctly, and when I came back, the mrs had called the gas emergency line as she thought the smell was a gas leak

By heck 1 1/4 years taken to change the diff oils.

No wonder your missus thought that there had been a 'gas leak'.
