Ebay tracker

Has anybody got any recommendations or reviews on any of the portable ebay vehicle trackers available?

Best wishes

I was looking into GPS trackers and a few recommended a TK102 system. Seems to be around £10-£20 and you can wire it into the 12v supply. You call it (thanks Baltic Very Happy ) for location and some versions of it have a movement sensor. If you link it to livegps.co.uk you can track it live on google maps.

Not bought one yet, but thinking about it as a back up for a classic car project I'm working on. Tom

I fitted one on my Td6 and then moved it across to my 4.4tdv8 .
It was very simple to install and works well.

One point, they need a second generation SIM card which are getting rare.
I tried fitting a 3G SIM card PAYG from o2 which was supposed to be backward compliant to 2g but I couldn’t get it to work so ended up with a Libra PAYG 2g card. You have to make sure you use it regularly (say once a month) because they have a habit of deleting cards that are not used frequently even though they have still got plenty of credit left on them.

You ring the number, not text it, and it messages you back.

I use this type and it works very well...

I tried a cheaper one, and that wasn't accurate so gave up with that one. The manuals are not great, but OK if you work out what they were meaning to say. You either text or call the number and it texts back with a Google maps link of where the car is, or you can use a website for live tracking.

I use mine with a Gifgaff PAYG sim topped up to about £10, which doesn't seem to need to be used with any particular frequency. There is an automatic top-up function too so can just forget about it. Current:

I use one of these, hidden in the dashboard and wired to a ignition 12v feed so it bursts into life when the car is started without draining the battery when the car is left standing for long periods. A PAYG sim card (a £10 top up lasts for about a year dependant on usage) and a lifetime subscription to GPS Live. I get a notification on my phone if the vehicle moves and the tracking seems spot on with mobile phone and desktop apps giving accurate location details.

I had a TK102 device which I carried in my pocket when motorcycling** but stopped using it when the 2G network closed. It worked well. I had a cheap 365 day expiry SIM in it. One disadvantage was network coverage in some areas where I rode.

I need to source a 3G tracker. The TK102 wasn't even though the advert claimed it was.

** Why when riding? 10 years ago my son disappeared from a motorbike ride (he was Tail End Charlie). The other riders searched for hours. He was found some 5 hours later by a passing ambulance that saw tracks leading into the bush. He was dead. Ron B. VK2OTC

It does. His username on multiple fora was Bucko.

I ride his last bike purchase (Yamaha XJR1300) and wear his Marlboro jacket. Ron B. VK2OTC
