new battery

HI GUYS

ive just replaced my battery today: and what a Censored job it is to get the old one out !!!, perhaps im weak now but in the end i had o clime onto the engine and attempt to lift it with 2 hands completely square on, which it came up and out eventually just as i was about to give up: it looked like it would perhaps come out easier if the lip at the bottom, either end was cut off ?

i had asked my local garage in france to order the VARTA L1 020 110ah 920 a priced at around 150euro: but when i went to collect they had ordered a FIAMM L6 110Ah 920A which was 240 euro Censored ,and he pointed out that its a very good pne with 3 years warrrenty: which he thought was good; until i pointed out that the varta is i believe 5 years;

anyway i didnt argue as i needed to get back on the road;

i have two questions;

1, has anybody used these Fiamm bats before; and if so, are they a good brand

2, what would you expect to see the voltage reading to be when putting a metre across the poles, ie what would denote a poor condition battery ? below 12 ?

or is that not a sufficient test

just curious guys , thanking you in advance Bow down Bow down

HI

yes i Big Cry did; but even standiing on a crate; i found i couldn't get a straight lift on it as to the angle of approach; ( and a dodgy arm ), which didn't help, but each time i tried to lift it, it caught on the lip running around the bottom of the battery; but in the end i clambered up onto the engine cover and managed to get a straight lift on it which came out ok, but they have not allowed much leaway for a battery of 39cm !!

still its done now thank Censored Thumbs Up

I've just replaced my battery last weekend, swapped out the genuine varta LR battery (110ah 850cca) for the Varta I1 110ah 920cca s020. It was a straight swap, but I agree it's a fiddly job. The Varta I1 nly cost £123.50 for the battery and a FIAMM L6 is only 144 euros on ebay so I reckon you've been shafted by your supplier in having to pay more for something they've foisted on you. If I was you I'd certainly complain to the supplier and ask for some money back.

Always worth spending a little time getting all the cables and piping out of the way as well, this makes the "out" and the "in" much easier

Thumbs Up .

yes i was thinking the same thing; my supposedly friendly garage: 100e over the top, i will have words and get them to speak to the supplier

Thumbs Up
