How easily can you put a LR warranty on a non-dealer car?

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking of buying a 2013/15/15 Range Rover or Sport and was wondering if I found a good deal at a reputable specialist how easy is it to put a Land Rover warranty on the car? Is the warranty worth having or do third party ones cover just as well? What do people do? I'm tempted to just stay with a dealer car as I think they give a two year warranty(correct me if I am wrong please).

How expensive are these cars to run compared to BMW five series or X5?

Thanks,

David

Buying AU you get a 2 year LR warranty and breakdown cover. It is a good warranty.

You can pay for an LR main dealer to give the car a health check and if the results of that along with the service history can prove all is at it should be then you should be entitled to purchase an LR Extended Warranty (approx £1500/ year).

Can't comment on comparable BMW running costs. L405 not cheap to run although neither is it prohibitive.

I have found Warranty Direct very good. Coughed up £2k for a bunch of work without a fight (steering pump, a fancy shock absorber, something on the suspension). Will be half the price of a LR warranty and includes wear and tear.

Used cars from dealers need to be under 4 yrs old & around 40k miles to get a 2yr warranty otherwise it gets one yr unto 6yrs and 80k i believe

Unless you play hardball with them at point of sale... Thumbs Up

Thanks Guys,

Very useful. We have winged it a bit with our various five series and been lucky but I thinks it’s time to start using a warranty. It sounds like the arrangements for non-dealer cars are similar to BMW. They have a variable cover approach where you can specify to what extent you are covered in terms of power train, etc.

Cheers,

David
