To repair or not to repair, that is the question?

This is sort of a follow on from an earlier thread about squeaks and rattles - I'm actually convinced that most damage, squeaks, rattles and interior marks on light leather, actually appear following a visit to the garage for service or repair - These people don't seem to care about your pride and joy!

I'm really unsure what to do on this one and would like the opinion of others please....... Next week my car goes back to the main dealers for one or two bits, including a repair to the Head Up Display. It's making a funny noise, seems to be something to do with the electronics or fan within the system, so I've had to to turn it off.

At present there isn't a single squeak or rattle anywhere in this car but I'm almost certain that they're going to have to dismantle the dashboard to get to the Head up Display, meaning they probably won't put it back together properly.

I'll only ever really use the Head Up Display when on the motorway, at which time you don't really hear this HUD noise - However ideally I would like it to work at all times....... So the question is this:

Do I leave the Head Up Display off. only switching on during motorway use?
or
Do I get the car fixed and run the risk the of a dashboard squeak or rattle being introduced?

Have trust and confidence in their professionalism unless or until they give you reason not to. Let them fix it Thumbs Up

I think it all depends on the dealer.

On my MY2017 I had to have a new infotainment unit fitted and I was very nervous about it being done for exactly the same reasons as you did.

However the dealer did a superb job, no rattles etc on return. A new set of infotainment faults, but no rattles!

Just be clear with them when you drop it off - explain there are no squeaks or rattles.

Then ask them the question - would it be unreasonable for you to expect it back in the same state ?

People seem to respond better to a question like that than a statement or demand - and once they agree - you are not being unreasonable - and they can hardly disagree Very Happy

I agree with you about the dealers, but it would drive me mad knowing it was not working as it should.

So i would take Alistair's advice and get it sorted.

Oh and hows the paint now?

Thanks all - Yes Alistair's advice and way of approaching it sounds good and makes sense.

As for the paint, to be fair it does look like they just forgot to finish polishing the car, missing off the bottom section of the rear N/S quarter panel. This is another thing they are going to correct...... However, I am still going to have the paint corrected and ceramic coated applied once the car returns.

Thanks Fat Wolfie..... From what I understand, the paint correction should remove any dirt build up and marks, returning the paintwork to near perfect.

I believe the ceramic coating will protect the paint, while also making it easier to clean in the future...... At least that's what I read.
