climate control problem or not?

Hi guys, I have picked up my new L322, well new to me anyhow. I am over the moon with it but fear that I might have a problem which will mean taking it back for a fix. Before I ring up the dealer I wanted to run this possible fault past those of you that have the later model L322's. here goes:-
It is a November 2010 L322 Autobigraphy which has a few differences to my 2002 L322 HSE.
The climate control when set to auto does not light up any of the orange LED's around the control knob and only puts out a minimal amount of air through any of the vents. This is whether you set it for cold (air con) or hot air settings - the temperature however does change to suit the settings (just very low air output with no led's lit up).
If I over ride it by going to manual control the LED's do light up and the fan speed changes to suit the settings.
IS THIS THE CORRECT OPERATION as my 2002 L322 would adjust LED's and fan speeds according to the temperature required whilst in the AUTO mode setting.
Out of interest all other settings for temperature control, rear control and seats all work perfectly.
Thanks in advance for your help. The Best 4x4 by far, so long as you have deep pockets.

Huge congrats for landing your new AB. Pix pls!

When it's set to auto the outer LEDs don't light up.

The two lights in the centre of the knob are auto temp and auto vent independently. I tend to leave both on auto and just dial the temp(s) up and down.

The fans on auto don't tend to go up too high which I like because they get loud. If you change let's call it the 'input air' to full recirculation the fans run audibly higher.

Does the Max AC fire up the fans?

. Cheers, Greg

Thanks for the feedback. Yes the the max AC does fire up the fans. I thought that this might be the case as the temperature did alter according to the temperature set. I only questioned it because my 2002 model fired up the fans and the LED's noticeably on full auto. It is always good to get info from someone who has one and can put you right.
Thanks again

My fan speed is a function of available heat form the engine and the requested cabin temp. i.e. if the engine is cold on a cold day the fans don't blow cold air around the cabin but they do increase in speed as engine temp rises. As already said though, they don't get too loud unless max defrost is selected. Bish.

Hi Bishbosh10, yes that is how my 2002 model worked, if high temperature was selected then the fans would kick in once the engine reached temperature but it would show the status of the fans with the LED's around the selection knob. My new one doesn't seem to do this I.E. no led's light up although I have now been informed that the newer models don't illuminate the LED's when in auto mode and the fans seem to be only on very low. Unless someone tells me different, I will take what I have been told about the system and see how it goes.
Thanks for the reply.

Yep, my 2011 is the same as described in full auto - likewise has made my fiancé wonder if it really is working or not!

But yes, it very quietly works away in the background and gets us to the selected temperatures fairly quickly, just without any massive noise.

In auto mode the speed lights don't light up. They do a fancy thing when you select max defrost as they steadily climb to full power but in auto they are always off. Thumbs Up Bish.
