Avoid this L322 4.4 TDV8

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ad...romSA=true

I recently put a holding despot down on this car prior to seeing it as it seemed to be in great condition, well priced and well spec'd. The sales chap was also helpful.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, after a test drive etc, it turned out the service history was incomplete and the service booklet was a replacement copy. It hadn't been stamped for 4 years but apparently Pegasus Motors had serviced it for the client twice during his ownership but hadn't stamped the book and had no invoices to prove anything.
The MOT history didn't match the last mileage shown for the service so I'm pretty sure it had been clocked as well.

Overall, it was a very very disappointing encounter.

That’s a shame as it’s a nice looking car.

Tell me about it. I was very gutted.

To make matters worse, I then hit rush hour on the M25 and it took me 4 hours to do 100 odd miles....... Evil or Very Mad

Couldn't find a main dealer selling any L322's but all is well now as I have one.

I'll try and post some pics up soon.

Sorry you had such a long and wasted journey with that car - as others have said it did look nice. But I guess it comes with the territory when looking at used cars.

For me, I would almost always avoid small time traders - especially those WHO INSIST ON WRITING THE WHOLE ADVERT OUT IN CAPITALS! Finding a decent and honest private seller seems to work for me but accept that you don't have much in the way of any legal recourse.

Glad you are sorted now though and look forward to the pics.

Cheers, Mark

After my previous experience with a MD purchased I'd be doing quite the opposite!

I think it’s luck on the day with whoever is selling to be really honest.
There must be some good traders out there, just I am yet to find them.
That includes main dealer and independent, tried them all!

Haha, couldn't agree more Mark. Also any use of the phrase "FULLY LOADED!!!!" puts me right off. Oh, and "FIRST TO SEE WILL BUY!!!" My view is that many car dealers (not site sponsors of course!) are an unhappy combination of clueless, incompetent and dishonest - and I include JLR main dealers in that.
I bought from a forum member and have no complaints - but like someone else said, right time right place etc.

I try to avoid any kind of dealer at all costs, as they are all money driven. So will always tell you what you want to hear. And most of the time have no idea about the actual spec of a car.
Take your time and buy private if poss , it will be cheaper and with the money saved buy a decant warranty which will be better than any dealers warranty. Just my 2p worth.

I always buy private as it is usually a couple of grand cheaper which pays for all fluid replacement and goes towards all new bushes which I do to any vehicle I buy Thumbs Up

Why avoid it if the car was mechanically sound ?.

You would honestly buy a car that's been clocked and has missing history for the last 4 years???

Do you know for sure it's been clocked ? That's a pretty serious accusation ..
