Owned my FF for eight months, trouble free I thought until now. The cars in for service at an independent, being due an inspection 1 with 64000 on the clock. The machinic has noticed the toothed belt is starting to slip off it's pully, it's the belt which drives the power steering and alternator. I have authorised it to be replaced and the garage are awaiting parts.

Someone with a better memory than me will direct you to a post by Craig some while ago describing the problem with the toothed belt guide, causing it to run off line. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Thank you gents for responding, I feel a bit better informed now. The garage are intimating a bill of about £360 all in to do the belt job on top of the service. I can't work out why they work out why they feel they want to replace all of the pulleys just because tha have a bit of surface rust. |

most of the pulleys are plastic but tbh if they are replacing them all for that they are doing well, as I priced them up recently and the price for the parts was more than that. I would expect that sort of bill for just doing the belt and the tensioner, and the couple of pulleys you can get to easily. Stripping the other pulleys out is a bit more involved and many hours labour as one of them is on the alternator mounting bracket. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks for the additional info. It's my first RR and my first time at this Indy, always guarding against being taken for a ride with any garage having bad experiences in the past. Think this should be OK. |

I was advised to change the idler pulley(s) if in doubt. Because if the belt goes it will cause collateral damage.

Tensioner and both belts changed on mine when the belt slipped off 2 weeks ago. No collateral damage luckily. Tensioner bearings collapse and throws the belt off. I had a strange whirring noise beforehand which I put down to the belt, but now realise it was probably the tensioner bearings on their last legs. First thing I knew the battery light came up on the dash, and power steering stopped working. Recovered to garage to fix. Chris |

I am taking it into deals next week. I am assuming the tensioner is covered under the extended warranty. Mine is squeak, a spray of water quietens it for a bit. I am now nervous of it going now. Does anyone know how access able the tensioner and bolts are? It looks quite tight. 2012 4.4TDV8 VSE

My car has been to the dealer. It requires a new tensioner and it is covered by the extended warranty. 2012 4.4TDV8 VSE

My car is at dealer so can’t get a picture. If you stand at the front looking towards engine, there is a gap on the right hand side between engine and radiator, get a torch and inspect the belt, look at the second pulley from the top, it is the tensioner and has no lip on the pulley wheel unlike the others. On mine the belt was running at least 20% off the this pulley wheel. The dealer said not to drive like this, if it fails there is 1metre of strong belt thrashing around in there. 2012 4.4TDV8 VSE
