Parts war chest recommendations for tdv8

I have a bit of spare cash to put toward the FFRR. Before it disappears I thought I would put together a collection of parts likely to be needed over the next couple of years. It’s for my 08 3.6 TDV8 FFRR with 275,000km.

Here’s a few things I have thought of:
* broke pads and rotors f&r
* Filters - oil, fuel, air, pollen
* Steering angle sensor
* Coolant pipes for motor and transmission
* Intercooler pipes
* Fuel cap
* Alternator
* Belts
* Pulleys and tensioners.

Any further ideas would be welcomed. ______________________________

Just stash the cash ...
I’m all for stocking service parts , but beyond that , unless you know that parts on your car are substandard now and will definitely need replacing soon ... why buy now?

Could always have a non fault accident then writes off the fatty .. then you just have a bunch of parts ... 4.2 SC - sold , now bought back

The reality is spare cash WILL be applied to other priorities that come up.

Stashing the cash is good in theory.

If you need to tie up the cash in something material so it can’t be spent by others ...but can be liquidated quickly , buy gold
Or, next best thing good quality watches ... nothing that has a battery- at worst , depreciation free...

Thanks. But buying valuables won’t fly.

Good idea on buying specials. Ive bought oil and detailing stuff while on special. So those items are ticked.

Where do I find specials on parts/service items, apart from eBay? Im in Australia by the way. ______________________________

Unless there’s a specific reason for buying - like they are on sale, then your list is way too long.

Alternator seems to only be an issue on 2007’s

Steering sensor and coolant pipes are not something I ever replaced, of belts, tensioner or pulleys or the fuel cap.

If you need to stockpile, then I’d do all the fluids and filters every 100k Km and consider tyres depending on the state of yours.

Thanks Alistair. In my particular circumstances there are also tax advantages to buying now.

Alternators seem to fail after about 100,000km.

My belts are original as far as I know as are tensioners etc. So at 275,000 km I’m guessing these will wear out sometime soon.

My fuel cap strap fell apart a while ago and the plastic is looking old.

I’ll add rear air springs and shocks to my list, as springs are original. ______________________________

Ask Dan for a quote on the spares.

Even factoring in shipping costs he’s still heaps cheaper than buying locally (sadly).

Maybe add a starter motor to your list (I have a similar list 😀) 2007 3.6 TDV8

Also consider the two hoses from the charge air cooler to the engine.

Just recently had to replace mine due to splitting at the bends.

Possibly a replacement air compressor (considering your high kilometres) 2007 3.6 TDV8

Thanks Alistair and Steve.

I’m not so worried about the cap strap. More about the cap plastic breaking as plastic has faded. I haven’t heard anyone on here breaking one. So maybe just needs a coat of bumper paint.

The compressor was replaced by the previous owner. It’s very quiet. I can never hear it working.

I replaced the intercooler hoses (except ones at back) at the end of last year with a silicone set. According to the service history that’s the 2nd replacement set. I will get some more though. ______________________________
