Is there any way of getting the VIN from a registration using a website or anything?

You used to be able to do it via the warranty websites for BMW and Audi but they stopped it.

It would be great to see what options prospective cars have.

I've just seen a really well spec'd standard Vogue!!

It is possible, send me the reg and I will get the VIN. However what I struggle with for LR is a way of getting a spec from the VIN. Topix is a bit hit and miss with what detail it gives I find. 2005 E60 M5

RR spec online from the VIN is extremely limited in its scope. I was hoping for a full option breakdown as per a merc datacard but all you get is that its a range rover pretty much.
There are loads of threads on the mbclub forum about doing this but it is becoming more difficult and has changed again (as in VIN discovery from the reg) since I did it last.

I have found the build spec details on Topix very useful over the past few weeks during my search for an L405, it shows the full spec including options and often put the sales advert to shame as to what the spec of a car actually is

The dilemma regarding finding the vin details from a reg number is that I found a way to do this from an obscure forum but the more this information is publicly shared the greater the chance the loophole will be shut down.

I did wonder if the information on Topix regarding older models may be less comprehensive but that wouldn't appear to be the case for the car longmanh has enquired about

Yes I have - Bit odd there as MOT status check shows it as a diesel when its a 5.0 S/C. I've also done a HPI check and that seems to all match up correct. Its for sale at a LR main dealer so assuming there is nothing to nefarious there and its just a glitch in the .gov.uk site.

I'll be seeing it and test driving it tomorrow so will be able to get the VIN then but would be useful if I could get it before as I can do some more checks on its spec.
