4.4 TDV8 blue/grey smoke on startup that smells burning

As above really, notices sometimes in the last week or so I can get smoke from the exhausts that smells like burning, but doesn’t seem to do it if I put my toe down out on the road....

Like if you do a 3 point turn after starting you can smell and see it hanging there....still stinks a bit if you rev it when it’s warm but not really any smoke....

It’s def from the exhaust pipe......

It’s out the exhaust pipes.... wind from the back wafted it round this morning and it’s a bit embarrassing to say the least....has like an acrid smell....not nice..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Did it happen after a decent length run??
I am just thinking maybe you caught the tail end of a DPF regen when it burns injected fuel ??

It doesn’t really get a proper run each day, just once in a while.....but this is the first time I’ve seen this in the 2 years I’ve had it... what I meant was, it doesn’t kick black smoke out if I accelerate hard, so I don’t think it’s a split hose....

I do get the second turbo in a few times a week..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I’m wondering if it’s just doing a forced DPF regen and I need to take it a run......the internet says that creates an acrid smell from the exhaust......

Hammer the knackers off it - I have never ever had any problems with a DPF as I drive quite spiritedly and some fast motor way miles.

My wife's car is a different matter - forever expensive problems with the DPF and regeneration - it has cost me £1500 to fix over 12 months - the car has now gone and been replaced with a petrol.

The cure is if you only do small miles, or drive like a fart buy a petrol Thumbs Up

Part of the problem is the high gearing of the TDV8 4.4, they are only ticking over at 1000 revs at 50mph. You need to lock it in a low gear with the paddles and give it a damn good thrashing Cool 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
