TDV8 4.4 Heater/Seat Heater Whine | |
Had my '12 4.4 TDV8 for around seven months now and have only used the heater since about two months and I've noticed a whine coming from somewhere behind the dashboard/centre console when switching on either the a/c (to warm the vehicle rather than cool it) or the seat heating. In either case the whine continues for around ten minutes then fades away. When using the a/c the blower continues and sounds normal. As yet I haven't noticed the noise reappearing during a journey so it seems only to occur once after the initial switching on of the a/c or seat heater.
When I test-drove the car it was the middle of summer and whilst I checked that the heater and seat heaters worked, I don't remember noticing the whine but maybe I just didn't notice it. During the summer when using the a/c to cool the car it did not make the whining noise so I think it's something to do with the heater. Any ideas what it might be?
Not sure if it's related to the above problem but there has always been a whistling noise coming through the air vents when the a/c is switched off and vehicle speed reaches 85mph (140kmh). When you switch on the a/c the whistle stops and a/c operates normally. The main dealer who sold me the car, while acknowledging the problem, told me they were unable to fix it but couldn't name the cause. Took it to my local main dealer and they claimed the technical bulletin LTB00350v2 "Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Noise - From Recirculation Flaps" should cure the problem so they carried out the described fix (which involves installing some extra or modified part so not covered by the LR Approved warranty). However, the whistle still occurs so it's going back to the dealer later this month at which time they will investigate the heater whine also. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black
