It lives on empty lol it’s on gas that’s why - no need to carry excess weight Wink will check alt output - can I just chuck a voltmeter in the lighter socket? Current stable:

Mine dims a bit with lights and fog lights on at idle. Still charging OK. As for running with less than 1/4 tank it stresses the fuel pump and causes it to run hotter and shortens its life. Just keep the extra 38 lbs in the tank and leave the spare tire home.

Also notice I can do this on demand by turning both windscreen heaters on at the same time with the headlights on Current stable:

That would indicate that you should start saving for an alternator as it's getting a bit tired Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

If I’m honest it’s done that just never mentioned for about 18mths since I had it... if it had a cheap alt replacement could this do it? Current stable:

At idle, alternators generally only just manage to provide sufficient power due to the low rpm. They have a curved output Vs rpm graph which rises quickly and then flattens off. At low rpm such as idle the alt will be right in that steep curve section where the difference of a few hundred rpm could make a difference of 10's of amps.

So at idle when you've got heaters and blowers and wipers , ights radio etc etc, that alternator is being used to the limit of its output (at that rpm) and so not all systems will get a full clean supply, hence the dimming.

In a cold frosty start I generally hold the revs up at 1250 to 1500rpm not so much to get the engine warm quicker, mbut also to make the alt work in a more productive zone so that the electric systems work well. V8 or else ...

hi all - read the voltage finally - although typically it ant very dimmy today maybe didn't notice as much as its light. Anyway battery when off 12.1 volts when on and running for a couple of minutes 14.2-14.3 volts fairly consistent thought the range... Current stable:
