Are they taking the p**s?

FFRR in main stealer for a service.

They've advised I need new pads & discs on both front and rear.

Fair enough.

Asked how much this would cost and been quoted £1,845

I nearly fell off my chair.

Is this right? Sounds very expensive to me. What do I put here then?

I think if you shop around you could save around £1300!

England 2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

Main dealers are notorious for their sky-high prices for things any basic mechanic can do for a fraction of the cost.

I was ripped off over £900 for the same from an independent on my Td6 when I did not know any better. I now always source the parts myself and either fit them too, or take to my local mechanic. Tom

I've asked DuckworthDan for a price on the parts.

Looking at Duckworth's site, even including the Brake Pad Wear Sensors, the total for parts is only £645.55

- I'm not sure I've selected the right ones hence asking Dan!

Which means the stealer wants £1,199.45 in labour! What do I put here then?

Does anyone more mechanically minded than me - the wife says I break out into a sweat just holding a screwdriver - know how long it takes to change front & rear pads and discs? What do I put here then?

A bit longer than that if you are going to do the job properly, clean up the calipers, guides and guide pins etc. (make sure you do this, and use brake grease on the refit to avoid squealing) Plus all the jacking up and down, wheels on and off. Rears may take longer than the fronts, due to the drums.

I guess If I was doing it on my drive, and if nothing broke (e.g. pull though brake drum pad retainers!!) allow 1 hour per wheel.

Yes, garages would probably have 20-30 minutes per wheel. .

A thorough job would take me 3-4 hours max on my drive. That's £300 an hour labour they are charging. Rolling with laughter

Seriously though, the caliper pins can be a pain on Brembo's but that aside it's a straight forward job. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

Thank you.

Stealer says 5 hours at an eye watering £160 / hr plus vat.

And they’re 50%! more expensive for the parts.

Parts from Dan and a local mechanic methinks. What do I put here then?

Euro car parts have usually got decent offers on brake parts.

Thanks, Paul.

My FFRR is still under a LR Warranty. So need to fit OE parts.

Ordered these from Dan. Will get a local mechanic to fit. What do I put here then?

If you’re going to replace the rear disks, make sure you put the EPB shoes into the unlatched position. The IIDTool can do this, or there’s a manual procedure that you can follow. Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I just got Pads and Rotors done yesterday. Front and rear. Came out to the tune of $1100 US Dollars at a very reputable Land Rover shop. Dealer wanted about $1400. I think you're getting ripped off.

Thanks.

I presume you do this before starting on them. Then put them back into ‘latched’ when you’re done. What do I put here then?
