Can someone confirm that the two wires one black which is live (18v ?) and the red/yellow have separated . I suspect this is stopping the rear screen from de- misting .

Ok moving on , I have worked out that these two wires are separate.
The black wire seems to have separated from the base of the window from its soldered connection a nightmare especially with my soldering skills which are none .
Anyone had this problem , apart from getting a new rear screen!

Not on a Range Rover, given I'm only just looking to buy one, but I had a very similar problem on my Defender a few months ago with the high level brake light, where one of the spade terminals for that, which is part of the window assembly, snapped off.

As long as there's some of the metal connection left on the window, you (or someone) should be able to solder the terminal back on. It was quite fiddly given the size of the parts remaining, not enough hands to hold everything and the fact for the brake light it was all above the head, but I did manage it. If you have a second person to hold the part in the right place, maybe with a pair of long nosed pliers or something, it might make it easier for you to concentrate on soldering a good joint.

I'd certainly give it a go (there's nothing to lose) and/or find a friend with some better soldering skills, before completely throwing the window away presumably incurring a reasonable cost.

I need a course in soldering , never been good at it , welding .... no probs, I’ll get someone at work, plenty there. I can’t get the bare end to even take the tinning, it just falls off , maybe need some decent solder. The tab that is part of the window wiring is not helping and as you’ve said is above your head won’t tin either and you end up getting solder all over you , not good. Will try again tomorrow .

Partial success eventually , decent slider which had flux unit seemed to to the trick , not an easy job, I will see how long it lasts.

Excellent news. I'm no expert at soldering either, but mine has held on for a year now, which given how much a Defender shakes and rattles, I assume means it's good enough!

Hey don't knof anyone has removed the trim around the frame inside the back window , its an absolute night mare to replace all the tabs were broken so its clinging on !
They seem to go for a reasonable price as well on ebay , but not my coulour , worst one is the wiper motor cover , this cold weather doesn't help when plastic is so brittle.

Wonderful - it's always nice when such a cheap fix works, especially after the soldering issues. You're well prepared for the next few days' weather now then!
