Evening all, I've got the engine stripped down for a thermostat replacement. It's clear that one or more injector has been blowing as there is a big build up of carbon (you could smell it when the car was running) before we start pulling injectors out, has anyone else seen this? Is there just a seal you can change, how do they come out?

This is quite common on smaller PSA engines like the 1.6 hdi and once the carbon has built up the injectors can be extremely stubborn to get out, LR recommend replacing the injector seals with a kit that includes the copper washer and the metal holding down clamp and but they charge the earth for each kit and by the time you buy 8 you will be crying so most people just replace the copper washer purchased from eBay or diesel specialists although maybe it’s possible that someone has tried to reuse the washers in the past and this is what’s caused your issue,
If you do have problems getting them out yourself there are some mobile people that specialise in getting stuck injectors out even when the snap off which although drastic it would be a lot cheaper than removing the heads.
