I was at BCA Blackbushe today. I have bought few cars before from auction all with good experience. I don't see any risk buying under 3 years old as will be under manufacturer warranty anyway as long as it has been serviced on time. For those who interested here are some FF sold prices.

1- Sold for £39k - 63 Plate LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 4.4 SDV8 VOGUE, BLACK, 42,164 miles, Warranted, Grade: 3. 2 Owners. Full LR Service Hist, Last Service 05/2017 at 38k miles.

2- Sold for £51k - 13 Plate LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 4.4 SDV8 AUTOBIOGRAPHY, WHITE, 12,238 miles, Warranted, Grade: 3, 2 Owners

3- Sold for £54k - 16 Plate LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 3.0 TDV6 AUTOBIOGRAPHY, GREY, Diesel, 18,556 miles, Warranted, Grade: 2, 1 Owner, Last Service 08/2017 at 14k miles

16 Plate was an absolute bargain! It was mint condition with service as required so under LR manufacturer warranty. Go and have look on Autotrader for 2016 3.0 AB around 18k mile prices!

63 plate was OK deal but 13 plate gone far too expensive although it was fully loaded car.

Bear in mind there are auction fees on top of these prices depending on your membership. For reference £54k car will have £1,738 fee for a private buyer but only £663 for a platinum trade member. There also some traders with platinum membership who provides auction car buying service for £250. So you could use them and end up paying £913 total fees. 2017 Range Rover SDV6 AB

Its hard to say an exact percentage Socialrover, but from experience i would say generally %15 for 1-5 years old Full Fat with good spec at the right time of the year. Like the 16 plate car above its easy to ask for %20 margin as it will rightly fit in current retail market pricing. However it would not make sense to buy the 13 and 63 reg cars at that price band as you can buy very similar cars from main dealers with 2 year warranty and test drive etc. for £2k more which worth the convenience.

I bought my Bentley from auction but the Rangie from main dealer as auction prices did not made much sense at that time for the spec i was after. I have also seen cars sold at BCA and turned up as "Approved Used" on main dealer forecourts which is fine as you will still get all the benefits of warranty etc.

Its all about who is bidding on that car on the day so you need to search retail market first and set your max auction price before bidding.

Grade 1 and Grade 2 cars are generally great, it might have small chips or kerbing damage but that would be about it. Always go and see it though. I have seen grade 3 cars much better condition than grade 2 cars. At the end of the day the grading done by employed person and they cant all have the same "eye". 2017 Range Rover SDV6 AB

I agree memzy88 , at the last two Jaguar / landcover sales at BCA franchised dealers were just not letting anything get away unless it was really tatty .

I suppose thats how they control pricing .( it was an 'open' auction ) .

Between two guys they must have spent a couple of milllion quid .

Not if the big boys are controlling / restricting supply of the commodity ,e.g. tesco buying up surrounding land to restrict competition .

Who cares - they can only do it for so long - they were buying to sell on - they are also governed by money and they, not you, need to make a profit - they are employees and have to answer to their superiors - if they don't make a profit it's curtains i.e. Free market reigns 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

They could probably make that 22K and it would still be there!!

Brown/brown I reckon isn't exactly a good benchmark car. They probably can't give that away. all smug in my new plug!

I have done hundreds of auctions, plant, livestock, property and vehicles and this is fact, it is usually the auctioneer who runs up naive inexperienced bidders - these are very easily spotted and are taken advantage off. On the very rare occasion the auctioneer gets left with the vehicle he just dumps it in the next sale.

2nd, trade bidders will also do their best to run up the newby to teach them a lesson and then pull out when it looks like his interest is waning or the bidding slows - they are having a giggle with their friends and the auctioneer.

I have never seen trade bidders pay over the odds to try to control the market - the market is simply to big to do this and they would end up making a loss.

Reading an auction is great fun for those experienced in them - but for many inexperienced bidders it can be costly and you can end up paying almost retail without the protection or a warranty when buyers premium, VAT and any other costs are factored into the equation.

Plus many dealers dump the mediocre trade in vehicles in auctions. They may look fantastic - but many are covered in smart paint repairs which don't last or have had poor resprays with panels slightly different colours or evidence of paintwork, poor panel prep, slightly wavy panels or thick paint. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
