1st Post - Heater always Hot

Hi all, my first post after joining.

I have a 2003 L322 4.4 Vogue, have just purchased it knowing I'd have a journey of discovery.

So I had an issue with the heater running cool, temp gauge at about 1/3 and cool heater. I assumed it would be the electric thermostat and ordered a new one, when I removed the old one the actual thermostat had been removed. I fitted the new one and whilst I had a few issues bleeding the system I know have hot heater and the temp runs perfectly normally at half way and there is no over heating.

HOWEVER - my heater is now permanently hot, weather auto or manual mode or with aircon off or on the outlets (I know about the centre vent blend) at the screen and floor are full on hot irrespective of the temperature setting.

The heating worked well before (other than the cool running due to low engine temp) and the aircon was ice cold, it seems like the hater control valve???

But do you think its due to possible air in the circuit??? or is there somewhere else I should be looking.

Thanks in advance.

Yes Ive studied them all, most of them relate to the heater being cool if there is an air lock though, mine is the other way..

Thanks it’s not the centre vent I’m having issues with it’s the heater in general.

Colin, that is control for the temperature in general. turn knob all the way left and right and set it in the middle.

Have you got the air con button pressed in? It's the one with the snowflake and has to be illuminated to have the air con working. Otherwise you just have the heater function.

Just a thought as it is easy to overlook. John

It could be the bowden cable that has come loose on the dial nino said - easy to pull the vent out to check, takes under 5 minutes to rule it out

Sincerely - Thanks to all for your replies - in order to avoid wasting anyones time, Id like to clarify further.

The specific issue is as follows.

The centre vent cable is connected and working - IE the heat emitted from it gets hooter and cooler as the dial turns. although it doesn't get ice cold even with the zircon on like to should.

The issues is that the heat emitted from all other vents IE screen/Floor etc it permanently hot irrespective of the temperature set on the controls.

How is the centre vent connected to this issue???

The centre vent is not connected to your issue IMO as, from what you say, it appears to be functioning properly. Have you checked that the AC is activated as per my post above? John

Yes, The air con switch makes no difference.

IMO - even with AC off, the heater output should blow cool when the temp dials are down, with the AC on it should be cold. However the output is permanently HOT and does not change in temp AT ALL when you change the temp control knobs.

How about seeing if an air con test and recharge works? John

Again, thanks for you input, I think even if the aircon didn't work, IE no gas, the heater output would still blow cooler that it does. we are at 5 degrees c here in the UK

Im convinced its the heater control valves not closing, but why? and such a coincidence after a coolant bleed??
