Is the 3.6 suppose to run hot?

The temp gauge on the L322 3.6 always stands to attention when running. I’ve only seen it move right on a really hot day when driving on a soft sandy beach in low range.

Under the bonnet always feels hot, even more so when the motor works hard and the fans are at full bore. On a hot day, day over 30 degrees, the radiator fans are working hard.

Is this normal? Ive never had a problem. I should hook up the IID tool to get some real data I suppose.

Advice would be appreciated. ______________________________

I'd say it was just your hot climate. As you say, you have not had a problem. Maybe look into that waterless coolant if it's an issue. Engines run cooler as it is better at removing heat because it doesn't vaporise. Also virtually no pressure builds up so less strain on components. Plenty of info on the web about it. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

Even after a 130 mile drive down to London, my needle remains resolutely back in the center of the gauge once she's up to temperature. It stays there too even if I've just taken a short trip into town. It seems that's where it's mean to be on the gauge during normal operation

Yep temp gauge rarely moves from the verticle position once warmed up. Other than on that beach run. ______________________________

Yesterday the temps were well under 30 degrees, so the top of the bonnet was cool. However the driver side passenger side guard was warm. Could this be the fuel cooler transferring heat?
Thanks ______________________________

These modern engines types (including the 3.6) are designed to run hotter than older engines... and as some one said with the turbos and coolers etc it will get very hot under the engine bay , I do notice allot of heat is generated myself

In saying that i have never seen my gauge move past the standing straight up position.. if your concerned you need an id tool or other way of confirming the actual coolant temps
