Been searching but not really found a clear answer.....

my 2012 Westie has deployable steps... and in the next couple of days going in to have winter tyres fitted and it will probably be the first L322 they have ever worked on....

Do I need to get the steps off? and if so how to do it? the LR fitting guide in the wiki is not clear and it is -7 and snowing outside!
Should I get them to use the jacking points in the manual with a trolley jack to avoid them sticking on a pillar lift and extending the airbags ( they did that on the D2 and induced a leak!).

Any other good advice for wheel removal / fitting at a commercial place?

Going for Continental WinterContact TS850P - get good reviews from big SUV driving friends here - and had a 2 week wait for Alpin 2 s.

Amazed at the smile the Westie puts on my face - found myself quite happily going round town in circles today ... normally frustration would set in!

Deployable steps need to be either off or deployed to use the jacking points. If they will undo, the steps can be removed with an allen key (which is probably in your boot). However, I cant get the bolts out of mine and in trying, the heads have started to round so I don't bother with that route now. But I did fit my winter tyres today without issue (Wintrac extremes). There's a sequence to lock the steps out (its in the manual) but I can never remember it so I just leave a door open so the steps stay deployed. Easy lift from there with the Sprinter bottle jack (search on here for where to get one) and wheels quick to change.

I think your concern for the airbags with wheels dangling is misguided. To remove the wheel for any action it has to be off the ground so by definition dangling. If that's enough to cause a leak then its going to happen sooner or later cos there's obviously all sorts of reasons you might need a wheel off.

There's been a couple of group buys on here for a wheel bolt alignment guide. I should have bought one but never got in in time! The wheels are heavy and the hardest bit is lining them up to mount them. If I'd bought one of those guides it really would have been an easy job! Mike - MPx

Easiest thing in the world is to open the door then unplug the step! Plug is at the front of the step (by the front hinge)

How about trolley jack off the chassis rail behind the steps? Is that possible/doable/safe/non-damaging? __

OK, tried this myself, not possible unless you have a particular type of trolley jack with a tall pad. The jack's arm fouls on the steps.

Bottle jack possible, but easier to just deploy the steps and leave them out. __
