Tips on replacing Alternator

The cold weather seems to have killed my alternator Big Cry

I've found a decent replacement, and was planning to do the job myself, as it looks to be a straight forward nut & bolt job. But before I take it on, anybody have any tips? Access looks a bit tight, and will I have to break out the IIDTool afterwards?!

Which engine do you have? I looked on the profile but couldn't see.

The M62 engine alternator is water cooled, though quite straight forward.

Remove the vicious fan and radiator - which can be done in about 30 mins if you have the right tool to get the fan off. Then it is 6 (I think) bolts around the alternator and one for the power connection. Make sure you check the condition of the rubber seal of the one going back on, which is normally attached to the alternator.

Whole job is less than 2 hrs even if done on a drive. Current:

You need the hands the size of a girl. Did mine and took ages worst part was getting to the plug in the back of the altenator. Some take the turbo off to do it, I managed without doing that radiator fan etc had to come out. Managed to get it out thr front but was tight and an absolute bar steward.

I think at this time of year and the awkwardness factor, I’d be paying someone else to do it Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

Mines a 4.2 SC, so no turbos. Access looks the hardest part!

The access will be tight, but essentially it should just be a bolt off/on job. I would never have thought of re-programming anything ... it puts out a voltage when its turning and thats about it. V8 or else ...
