Without wanting to scare monger, If you wear expensive jewellery or drive an expensive looking car (that’s us!😳), always think defensively; when you stop at lights, in traffic or just as you approach home. This is becoming a more common form of attack because it is relatively easy for the assailants.

This lady didn’t and could have had a nasty experience but was lucky.

Can you identify what she could have done to make this scenario end a lot quicker and a lot better?

I am fortunate I have protective glass in my Range and always have my doors on auto lock. I know there are some who poo poo that but once you have Had someone jump uninvited into your car, you may change your mind.

Spacial awareness and paying attention to your immediate surroundings will be of great benefit in a situation like that.
Leaving at least a car length gap between you and the car in front will also give you opportunity (not always) to manoeuvre away from a confrontation.
I always lock my doors when out and about.

And usually have my stop lock within easy reach also.....

I acknowledge that she was probably in shock and this leads to classic “deer in the headlights” and she had left a good space in front of her which she could have used more, but she had a few options open to her I reckon:

1. Pull into left lane which was empty and drive off
2. Reverse out (there was space behind)
3. Pulling out into right lane where Car in front had seen the incident and moved out of way.
4. As a plastic resort pull fed and push the car in front out of way (and drive over moped thug blocking car in front.

I know it’s easy to say this from the comfort of my armchair but I hope this gives a heads up to just be a little more vigilant. Remember it may never happen to you ...... but.....

This has made me think. Pretty nasty really and a really good case for laminated side windows!

I remember taking some additional driver training lots of years ago and one thing that I did like and always try and use is pulling up far enough from the car in front to always be able to pull out if that car can't move for some reason. The rule of thumb was still being able to see the rear tyres of the car in front.

that is where tinted (after market) glass comes in to its own.... and what did the Nanny state ban on the front windows of cars made after 2004...... But if you're worried you can get the window film in clear  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
